Clarion Hotel Cork is situated on the banks of the River Lee, one kilometre from St Finbarre’s Cathedral. The Crawford Art Gallery is 600 metres from the hotel, while the main shopping and entertainment area of Cork is one kilometre away. Sightseers should not miss the opportunity of visiting Blarney Castle, 25 kilometres away, and kissing the famous Blarney stone in the hope of receiving the gift of eloquence. The hotel is seven kilometres, a 15- minute drive from Cork International Airport.
Among the most notable attractions in the Southwest are the Lakes of Killarney, the area should be explored partly on foot in order to appreciate it fully. Killarney also makes a good base for discovering the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula.
The main cities in the area, including Cork and Limerick, have quiet charm, but they cannot compete with the magnificent scenery farther west. Kinsale is a favorite starting point for a leisurely drive through the coast west to Bantry.
St. Finbarre This was once the entrance to medieval Cork. According to tradition, St. Finbarre established a monastery on this site around AD 650 and is credited as being the founder of Cork. The present, compact, three-spire Gothic cathedral, which was completed in 1879, belongs to the Church of Ireland and houses a 3,000-pipe organ. |
